Welcome to PrePent Day 29!
The people united will never be divided. An unprecedented turn out this past Sunday for the March to End Fossil Fuels - and the NYTimes focused most on the young generation who showed up enmasse.
What kind of a world will they make for themselves and their future generations - will it be better than what they’ve inherited?
Rhona Silverbush, author, educator and longtime Lab/Shul partner trusts in Gen Z. .
“This amazing generation is heart-centered, passionate about social justice, determined to save the planet, less interested in acquisition, more interested in what they do than what they own. They create more, consume less. And all while managing to still maintain a sense of humor about themselves. They’re inheriting quite a mess, and they know it. They’re angry, and justifiably so…but they’re not content to just rage. They’re aware of their agency and are finding their ways at younger and younger ages to get engaged and do true Tikkun Olam. And they DO!”
If you’re a Gen Z’er - way to go, we believe in you and will show up with you.
If you’re a bit older - when’s the last time you really took the time to listen, listen, listen to this generation?
As we head to Yom Kippur, maybe that’s something we can aim to do?
Welcome to the PrePent journey - August 18th - the first day of the month of Elul.
Here’s how you can participate:
Each day, starting today and ending on Yom Kippur, 9/25, we’ll post one photo+short text submitted by YOU - Lab/Shul Partners and global community members. (Double photos on Friday for Shabbat - we won’t post on Saturday.)
Use this printable signEditSignEditSignEditSign to write in your answer, snap a picture, write a short paragraph about your choice, and send it in to us using this form. You can also create your own sign and share with us!
We’ll be posting these daily offerings on our social media and website. You can also subscribe to get them in your inbox, for 40 days.
The entire collection will be on display at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center as an ongoing gallery during the High Holy Days, and attendees will be able to create new versions right on the spot. We’ll be talking about your choices on Yom Kippur - exploring, together, what it means to rebuild trust and re-imagine the sacred.
