PrePent Days 31 and 32
Inevitable and Holy Time
Welcome to PrePent Days 31 and 32!
When our Lab/Shul team was first experimenting with this spiritual activity of naming in what we trust, I (your faithful writer @NaomiLess1) could not think of anything to write that I trusted in except….DEATH. Morbid? Perhaps - but what does it mean that we all know we will ultimately die. What does that do to the way we look at our current lives if we trust in what our dear friend and teacher Sensei Chodo Campbell names as The Inevitable.
He invites us in this sort video - to live without fear of the inevitable.
And he will invite us, as he always does when we gather together, to not squander your precious life.
“We live in The City That Never Sleeps, with an Internet that reaches for us 24/7. In such a world, every hour, every day, is like every other. HOLY TIME restores our sense of balance: evening and morning, six days and Shabbat, new moons and festivals. Each presents, in its unique way, chances for gratitude, for praise, for reflection, for repair, for connection to the Everpresent and to each other.”
Bob Goldman, thank you for this powerful reminder to trust in holy time. The magic is unlocked when we trust that creating sacred space and time has the power to refuel us, help us to release, and realign in our lives.
As we head into the Shabbat before Yom Kippur - a the superstar of holy space and time - can you practice a moment of leaning into spaciousness for the next 25 hours?
Sit and listen to a friend.
Take yourself on a slow walk in nature.
Take a delicious nap.
Do something that delights you.
We’ll see you on the other side.
Welcome to the PrePent journey - August 18th - the first day of the month of Elul.
Here’s how you can participate:
Each day, starting today and ending on Yom Kippur, 9/25, we’ll post one photo+short text submitted by YOU - Lab/Shul Partners and global community members. (Double photos on Friday for Shabbat - we won’t post on Saturday.)
Use this printable signEditSignEditSignEditSign to write in your answer, snap a picture, write a short paragraph about your choice, and send it in to us using this form. You can also create your own sign and share with us!
We’ll be posting these daily offerings on our social media and website. You can also subscribe to get them in your inbox, for 40 days.
The entire collection will be on display at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center as an ongoing gallery during the High Holy Days, and attendees will be able to create new versions right on the spot. We’ll be talking about your choices on Yom Kippur - exploring, together, what it means to rebuild trust and re-imagine the sacred.
