PrePent Day 33
Impermanence
Welcome to PrePent Days 33!
Tonight is the night we gather to release all vows - Kol Nidrei - promises we didn’t keep, places in our lives where we fell flatter than we’d hoped. We know every year we are sentient beings alive on this planet is filled with mystery and wonder - and on Yom Kippur we call to the center stage the truth of Mortality.
Some say Yom Kippur is a rehearsal for one’s death. To acknowledge that life itself is impermanent - and how will we choose to live each day while we’re here.
Our beloved friend and teacher Sensei Koshin Paley, co-founder of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care, speaks of these concepts as part of his practice and teaching. In what does he trust?
Impermanence
Sensei Koshin will be teaching more on this tomorrow, joined by Sensei Chodo Campbell at 3:30pm eastern. Join them in person or online - Link in bio.
Prepare yourself for the inevitable - in loving community.
Welcome to the PrePent journey - August 18th - the first day of the month of Elul.
Here’s how you can participate:
Each day, starting today and ending on Yom Kippur, 9/25, we’ll post one photo+short text submitted by YOU - Lab/Shul Partners and global community members. (Double photos on Friday for Shabbat - we won’t post on Saturday.)
Use this printable signEditSignEditSignEditSign to write in your answer, snap a picture, write a short paragraph about your choice, and send it in to us using this form. You can also create your own sign and share with us!
We’ll be posting these daily offerings on our social media and website. You can also subscribe to get them in your inbox, for 40 days.
The entire collection will be on display at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center as an ongoing gallery during the High Holy Days, and attendees will be able to create new versions right on the spot. We’ll be talking about your choices on Yom Kippur - exploring, together, what it means to rebuild trust and re-imagine the sacred.
Ready to PrePent together?
