PrePent Day 34
Human Connection and Community
Welcome to PrePent Day 34!
Today is Yom Kippur - we've released our vows last night, things we didn’t do that we said we would, commitments to ourselves and others we didn’t follow through. We start the process of spiritual realignment - but we can’t do this alone. We do this in community.
Today we have three offerings - all focused on the next day of introspection and connection. Can we create a temporal space of trust enough to go deep and vulnerable to recommit to truly living this life with our best intentions and best heart forward?
Jenny Solomon, who prioritizes community by traveling in from New Jersey to be at Lab/Shul for these high and holies shares she trusts in human connection, creativity and love.
“I believe that participating in this simple ritual and spreading this community's hope for the future is a step toward a better world. Love, connection and creativity are some of my most important core values that I try to bring into my life and work.”
And Liz Alpern agrees. Liz, who founded Queer Soup Night in 2017, serving soup to loved ones while raising money for those we rally for, banks on the power of community. She adds the simple but profound belief: We thrive with others!
Where will you show up this year? Which communities will you help to thrive by bringing your spirit and helping build connections?
May you be bound up in the book of life in order to live more fully in connection with others.
Welcome to the PrePent journey - August 18th - the first day of the month of Elul.
Here’s how you can participate:
Each day, starting today and ending on Yom Kippur, 9/25, we’ll post one photo+short text submitted by YOU - Lab/Shul Partners and global community members. (Double photos on Friday for Shabbat - we won’t post on Saturday.)
Use this printable signEditSignEditSignEditSign to write in your answer, snap a picture, write a short paragraph about your choice, and send it in to us using this form. You can also create your own sign and share with us!
We’ll be posting these daily offerings on our social media and website. You can also subscribe to get them in your inbox, for 40 days.
The entire collection will be on display at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center as an ongoing gallery during the High Holy Days, and attendees will be able to create new versions right on the spot. We’ll be talking about your choices on Yom Kippur - exploring, together, what it means to rebuild trust and re-imagine the sacred.
